Welcome to Sri Lanka! Look out for the Travel Talk sign at Bandaranaike International Airport for the private arrival shuttle to your hotel at 3.00pm. Meet in the hotel lobby around 7pm for an informal welcome meeting with your group and guide. Feel free to explore Colombo on your own pace until then. After the meeting, head out to a local restaurant for an optional tour group dinner and get to know your new travel mates!

Enjoy a relaxed morning at leisure before travelling to the wild landscapes of Wilpattu National Park, a scenic journey of around 4 hours and 15 minutes. Known for its natural lakes, or “willus”, scattered throughout the park, Wilpattu is one of Sri Lanka’s most captivating safari destinations. This is true leopard country, home to a thriving population of Sri Lankan leopards, along with elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer, mongoose, water buffalo, and an incredible variety of birdlife and flora. As you set out on your safari, keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready — in Wilpattu, nature often reveals itself in unforgettable ways, from quiet moments by the lakeside to the sudden thrill of wildlife in action. After your safari, transfer to your hotel near Anuradhapura and check in for a restful evening.

After breakfast at your hotel, take a short transfer to the ancient city of Anuradhapura for a guided tour. Once the first capital of Sri Lanka and one of the island’s most important historic cities, Anuradhapura is home to sacred temples, ancient monuments, and centuries of fascinating heritage. Explore highlights such as Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweliseya, Basawakkulama Tank, the Samadhi Buddha Statue, and Isurumuniya Rock Temple as your guide brings the city’s rich past to life.

Afterwards, continue to the ancient Ritigala Monastery, located around 1.5 hours away. Surrounded by forest and local legend, this peaceful site offers a scenic trek through atmospheric monastic ruins and lush mountain landscapes. Later, transfer to Sigiriya, where you’ll check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure.

Today, set off for the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes away. On arrival, hop on your bicycle and explore this incredible UNESCO World Heritage Site with your guide. Once Sri Lanka’s second kingdom, Polonnaruwa is filled with fascinating ruins, ancient palaces, royal baths, beautifully carved moonstones, and the vast Parakrama Samudra reservoir. One of the highlights is the famous Gal Viharaya, or Rock Temple, where four impressive Buddha statues are carved directly into the stone.

In the evening, continue to Minneriya National Park for an unforgettable Jeep safari. This is one of Sri Lanka’s most exciting wildlife experiences, especially for elephant lovers. As your Jeep stops near the reservoir, watch as herds of elephants gather along the grassy banks to feed, move, and socialise in their natural habitat. With rich birdlife, beautiful scenery, and the chance to witness one of the world’s largest elephant gatherings, Minneriya is a true safari highlight.

After breakfast, get ready for one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic experiences as you climb the legendary Sigiriya Lion Rock. Rising dramatically above the surrounding landscape, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a spectacular 5th-century rock fortress, famous for its ancient engineering, royal gardens, frescoes, mirror wall, and breathtaking views from the summit. Pass through the giant Lion Paws and make your way up approximately 1,500 steps as your guide brings the history of this remarkable citadel to life.

Afterwards, continue to the impressive Dambulla Rock Temple, another unforgettable cultural highlight. Climb the steps to explore its beautiful cave temples, home to striking Buddha statues and colourful wall paintings that have been treasured for centuries.

Your journey then continues to Kandy, where you’ll visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth, one of the most important religious sites in Sri Lanka. Set beside the lake and surrounded by misty hills, Kandy offers a wonderful blend of history, culture, markets, crafts, and local life. Later, transfer to the cool highlands of Nuwara Eliya, enjoying the scenic drive as the landscapes shift into rolling hills and tea country.

After breakfast at the hotel, set off for Horton Plains National Park, around 1 hour away, for an incredible trek through one of Sri Lanka’s most spectacular natural landscapes. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a true paradise for nature lovers, with rolling grasslands, misty forests, cool mountain air, and unique wildlife found only in this part of the island.

Follow the scenic trekking trail across the high-altitude plains, passing frost-covered grass, dramatic viewpoints, and the beautiful Baker’s Falls along the way. One of the most unforgettable highlights is World’s End, where the land drops away dramatically to reveal sweeping views across the southern plains. Keep an eye out for sambar deer, colourful birdlife, and, if luck is on your side, even the elusive Sri Lankan leopard.

After your trek, transfer back to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Begin your journey to Colombo, a scenic drive of approximately 5 hours. Along the way, stop at a tea factory for a wonderful insight into one of Sri Lanka’s most famous traditions. Surrounded by lush green plantations and cool misty hills, discover how prestigious Ceylon tea is produced, from leaf to cup. Take in the aroma of freshly processed tea and finish the experience with a perfectly brewed cup for yourself.

Continue to Colombo for an exciting panoramic city tour of Sri Lanka’s lively commercial capital. Drive through the city’s vibrant streets and see a mix of colonial landmarks, modern developments, bustling markets, stylish shopping areas, and cultural highlights. From Independence Square and the Racecourse area to Pettah and the city’s growing urban skyline, Colombo offers a fascinating glimpse into Sri Lanka’s past and present.

After the tour, transfer to your hotel in Colombo and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

All great things must come to an end! Today, we say our farewells to new travel mates over one last breakfast at the hotel. Check-out of the hotel by 11.00am and feel free to explore the city at your own pace until the airport departure shuttle at 3.00pm.
