Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon

Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon

Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most extraordinary natural sights, where luminous icebergs drift across a vast lagoon at the edge of Vatnajökull. Formed by the retreat of Breiðamerkurjökull, the lagoon is now the deepest lake in Iceland and continues to grow as chunks of glacier break away and float toward the sea. The result is a landscape that feels constantly changing, shaped by light, movement, and the dramatic meeting of ice and water. What makes Jökulsárlón so unforgettable is its atmosphere. Some icebergs glow white, others streak blue or volcanic black, and seals are often seen moving through the water between them. Just beyond the lagoon, fragments of ice wash onto the nearby black sand shore, creating the sparkling contrast that has made this part of Iceland’s south coast so famous.
