Flag Tower

Standing proudly before the Imperial City, the Flag Tower of Huế is one of the most recognizable symbols of Vietnam’s former royal capital. Built in 1807 during the reign of Emperor Gia Long, it rises at the southern face of the citadel and was once used to fly the royal flag of the Nguyễn dynasty. With its commanding position and ceremonial role, the monument still captures the grandeur and authority of Huế’s imperial past. What makes the Flag Tower especially striking is its simplicity and scale. The structure combines a monumental brick base with a tall flagpole that remains visible across the citadel grounds, creating one of the defining silhouettes of Huế.
