Cable Car to Mt. Misen

Rising above Miyajima, Mt. Misen gives the island its dramatic shape and much of its spiritual character. Long regarded as a sacred mountain, it has been associated with religious practice for centuries and remains one of the most memorable natural and cultural landmarks in the Hiroshima region. Forested slopes, rock formations, temple sites, and wide views over the Seto Inland Sea come together here in a setting that feels both powerful and serene.

The experience of Mt. Misen is shaped by the journey as much as the summit. Visitors can reach the top by hiking one of several mountain trails or by taking the ropeway part of the way up, with the final stretch opening onto panoramic viewpoints and sacred sites scattered across the mountain. Among its most distinctive features are the primeval forest, the observatory views, and Reikado Hall, where the “eternal fire” is said to have been burning for more than 1,200 years.
